Student days

8th International Conference on Discrete Element Methods

The organisers of DEM8, MercuryLab are offering students a free 2-day training course on The Fundamentals of Discrete Particle Simulations.

The Fundamentals of Discrete Particle Simulations course will teach you the background knowledge required to apply the Discrete Particle Method (DPM) to real scientific and industrial problems. You will learn how to design and create simulations which can accurately reproduce the dynamics and behaviours of particulate and granular systems, and how you can use these simulations to better understand, predict, control and optimise real-world systems. Topics include an introduction to granular materials, contact modelling, contact detection, complex geometries, calibration and validation, and post-processing.

  • All training material will be provided free-of-charge by MercuryLab (usually the course is priced at €450).
  • The course will take place on 20th and 21st July 2019 at the University of Twente.

Please note, the course is limited to 50 spaces, so these will be given out on a first come, first served basis, therefore, if you would like to attend, please email dem8@mercurylab.org.
